Real Talk about Godly Beauty – What is it?

Hey there, Beautiful! Yes, I called you beautiful because you absolutely are! Today, I was thinking about the concept of Godly beauty.

It inspired me to ponder my own weird perceptions of beauty.

Sometimes, I write about beauty. In fact, a while ago, I wrote this long post about hair.

Hair doesn’t make us beautiful.

Neither does a good make-up job.

This really resonates at this stage in my life as my looks change.

Shucks, I’m in my fifties now. More than my looks are changing!

Maybe I should rename this GodsyGirl.com – a Christian lifestyle blog for middle-aged women.

What do you think?

Anyway.

I want to remind you that your beauty extends far beyond just your physical appearance.

You know that, right?

Your beauty radiates from the essence of who you are.

Today, let’s talk about the concept of Godly beauty.

As you explore this concept with me, keep your mind open and consider how we can encourage each other in the comment section below.

After all, I’m no life guru.

I’m just a Christian woman blogger hoping to encourage you in some way.

With that said, share your thoughts in the comments.

We can learn from one another.

Godly Beauty: You Are Beautiful Just as God Made You!

As I mentioned, I know the world has all kinds of ideas about what beauty should be.

But let’s go a little deeper and explore what Godly beauty really is.

How does God define it?

I think society has messed us up a little bit.

It has confused us by leading us to believe that beauty is what God’s Word truly considers ugly.

One session of watching a reality show will confirm that.

What has happened with the world? It’s gone crazy!

Tell me, when did acting ugly and dressing provocatively become the benchmark for beauty?

Listen, I’ll take Godly beauty or what God considers beautiful any day of the week.

At least with that type of beauty, I have help! I’m not talking cosmetics, either!

I’m referring to the help of the Holy Spirit!

Godly beauty comes from within. It is the Holy spirit. Its wht God say about beauty.

What Is Godly Beauty?

Spoiler alert: It’s way more amazing and powerful than anything in a fashion magazine or social media feed!

Being beautiful as a Christian woman is a profound sense of peace that leaks from every interaction you have.

Love is also Godly beauty. I really believe we are never more beautiful than when we love others.

As a girl, I remember an adult who was not beautiful by the world’s standards.

But, after five minutes with her, you’d agree she was among the most beautiful people you’d ever met.

One of my brothers and I talked about that a few years ago.

For some reason, she came up in a conversation.

We were chatting about how beautiful she was and the joy and love she exuded.

I want to be like her.

You’re going to love this one!

The beauty of a Christian woman is the confidence in Him.

The assurance of His love and acceptance enables us to live lives of authenticity.

It resonates with our spirits and connects us to the Creator of the universe! We don’t need to ask the universe anything. We can go to the One who created it!

That gives a Godly woman the confidence to be 100% herself!

Authenticity is the indicator of Godly beauty.

What is the Hebrew word for God's beauty?
What God says about beauty?
What does a godly woman look like?

Godly Beauty Starts From the Inside Out.

It’s the radiance of a woman who walks with the Lord and carries His love in her heart.

Proverbs 31:30 reminds us, “Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.”

That has beauty nothing to do with the outer appearance.

It’s not about a flawless face or perfect hair (although my hair is looking pretty good these days). hehe

Seriously talk: Godly beauty reflects the magnificence of a life dedicated to the Lord, embodying His love.

Again, when God created you, He made you uniquely beautiful.

Psalm 139:14 says, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”

Let that sink in.

You are wonderfully made.

Period.

Godly Beauty Is Not About Perfection.

Here’s the thing: The world teaches us to chase perfection.

But Godly beauty?

It’s about embracing the imperfections and allowing God to shine through them.

When we strive to be like Christ and live out His love, that’s where true beauty comes alive.

Remember 1 Peter 3:3-4?

It says, “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.”

Okay. I take back my hair comment. My hair doesn’t really matter that much. :)

Either way, it has its own little YouTube channel. It is very small, but that is what it is.

Embracing Your Godly Beauty – I’m trying too!

So, how do we embrace the beauty God has given us?

Start by asking Him to help you see yourself through His eyes.

Allow me to be transparent and tell you something personal.

In the last few years, I’ve gained so much weight.

When my mom’s health began to decline, I stopped eating regularly and had many ice cream cones, pizza, and Big Macs after a long, rough evening for my mom.

My habit became running to food for comfort. Can you relate to that?

After she and my brother passed, it got worse.

So, now I am larger than I’ve been in my entire life.

It’s been less than a year since my brother has gone, so my grief is still pretty raw.

I feel big. I feel ugly, and I feel sad about it.

Thank God, Feelings Don’t Matter!

With all that said, I couldn’t really care less about my feelings.

I know I’m beautiful – not because of my size or the length of my hair.

Totally has nothing to do with the size of my waist, neither!

My Christian beauty makes me beautiful. I’m not ashamed to say it either.

If you ever see me switching my big hips down the street with my head held high, you’ll be able to confirm it!

As a matter of fact, not five minutes ago, my husband just told me how beautiful I am.

I have no makeup, and my hair is up in the raggediest top knot you could imagine.

It’s so raggedy that there’s more hair falling from the knot than captured in it.

At any rate, even with that sweet compliment, I know I’m a beauty because of what – or shall I say, Who is residing inside me.

“If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.” Romans 8:11

The Holy Spirit inside you and I make us absolutely gorgeous, Girl!

We are bangin’!

Remember This and Never Forget It!

Meditate on the fact that God adorns you with salvation, making you the most attractive you could ever be

Then, you show up in the world reflecting His love, grace, and compassion.

Oh yeah, be sure to surround yourself with people who build you up and understand what Godly beauty truly is.

Shallow people will get you dirty in their shallow water because they have no depth.

I hope that makes sense as I intend it.

Shallow water is dirtier than deeper water, right?

I could be wrong, though. I’d better leave that to Dr. Rae Wynn-Grant.

What I do know is when you have those days when you feel anything but beautiful, here is what you do.

Go back to His Word.

Remind yourself what He says about you; what He says is beautiful.

That is exactly what I am doing these days.

One more thing.

Next, I want you to speak His promises over yourself.

Remind yourself that you are loved and adored by your Heavenly Father.

What constitudes Godly Beauty?
A Christian lifestyle includes
embracing your Godly beauty!

You Are More Than Enough in Christ!

I want you to walk away from this Christian woman’s post knowing your beauty isn’t something you have to earn or create – if you are a Christian.

It’s something God has already placed within you.

Just like a flower blooming in its own time and way, your Godly beauty is unique to you.

Own it.

Walk in it.

Share it with the entire world!

You are beautiful, my Christian Sister.

Right now.

Just as God made you.

Hey, I would love to hear your thoughts on Godly beauty.

How do you remind yourself of your true beauty on the tough days?

Share below, Beautiful!

Character of Abigail in the Bible

I’ve written a book on Christian journaling! Of course, I’d have to share some prompts!

Reflecting God’s Image:
Read Genesis 1:27, which says, “So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”

  • How does knowing you were created in God’s image influence how you see yourself?
  • In what ways can you embrace and reflect God’s beauty in your daily life?

Inner Beauty Over Outer Beauty:
Read 1 Peter 3:3-4, which says, “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment… Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.”

  • What qualities do you possess that are beautiful in God’s sight?
  • How can you nurture and develop those qualities further?

God’s Definition of Beauty:
Read Psalm 139:14, which says, “I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”

  • How has society’s definition of beauty affected how you see yourself?
  • Write a prayer asking God to help you see yourself through His eyes and appreciate the beauty He has placed within you.

  1. Hi Cyndie! Thanks so much for your thoughtful comments. Definitely thought-provoking…at least for me. Thanks again for stopping by and sharing your perspective.

  2. I am sorry, I forgot to thank you for writing this article. I was really relaxing, looking onto the internet what Godly beauty means. It is an vulnerable (intimate) article what you wrote.

  3. Hi! I thin truth is beauty. I have some doubts, but I think caring about our health is important, in what regards the physical body. I was a little hateful thinking a few days ago that women should do a few abdomens, instead of going to have manicure done, for visceral fat can really affect your health. And I think there are many health issues that sometimes we tend to neglect over the years, but instead taking time, even if it is just five minutes a day, to do makeup.
That being said about physicality, going bac to truth. Truth, seeking it, is the hardest thing to do. It requires a lot of commitment, but it cannot be done in an abstract way in everyday life: if we are to live what we preach. Being kind: sometime ago a was advised if I want to eradicate an evil that had infested an area in my life, I need to become concerned with being good and doing good deeds. So I think beauty is truth. Truth I believe is also linked to goodness, somehow: we are made to be good, and to cultivate real goodness. To discover what real goodness means to us, and that is a journey I wouldn’t want to steal from women, through shallow words, for it is something beyond words, and beyond good and bad.
