Are you looking for prayers for safe driving? Before you get on the road, read this and pray.
No doubt, driving in bad weather can be a stressful and scary experience. It is the epitome of feeling vulnerable because you have very little control. In situations like these, the only prayer I can think of is like Peter’s prayer on the water – “Jesus, help me!”. Praying can help you remain calm and focused on the road. It can also unleash all the heavenly help you need to stay safe and know what to do in those uncertain conditions.
Pray for Protection and Guidance.
Prayer is so powerful. Be sure of this: God moves as His people pray. He is not limited to our action of prayer, but He definitely hears and answers.
Prayer is real. It can keep you safe and sane while driving in bad weather.
Indeed, pray for the protection of yourself, your loved ones, and those around you on the roads. Ask God to guide you in the right direction and show you the appropriate safety measures to take while driving in poor conditions. It helps to focus on His grace and mercy during times of trouble and trust that He will keep you safe at all times.
The most important part: remember He is with you. His angels are around you – hanging out – ready to care for you and take care of you. That is why the below scripture is one I declare and pray often:
The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear Him,
And rescues them.
Psalm 34:7
Just in case you’re needing prayer inspiration this very minute, let me get to my sample prayer for you.
My prayers for safe driving – Prayer # 1
Father in the name of Jesus, I thank you that you care for me and love me. Because you do, you said I can cast all my cares on you.
Lord, as I embark on this driving experience in these dangerous road conditions, I need you. Lord, I’m battling fear right now. Thank you for saying I need not fear because you are with me and your perfect love casts out all fear. I lean into your love for me at this very moment.
I am going to take a deep breath as a symbolic gesture to relax my body and will breathe in your love and peace of the Holy Spirit. There is no fear in you, Lord, so I reject the temptation to be afraid.
Please protect me, Father.
Lord, you commanded me not to worry, so I will not. I decide not to. I DETERMINE NOT TO!
Holy Spirit, guide me to do whatever will calm me and keep my mind on you. Whether it is listening to a sermon or engaging in praise and worship – please tell me what to do now. I know worship takes my mind off earthly things and places them rightly on you. You are worthy of all my praise regardless of what is happening in my life. My praise of you shifts my mind from me and focuses it on you. So I will praise and glorify you in spite of my current situation.
Other people are on the roads and I pray for each of them now. I pray you protect them and keep them safe, Lord. Guide them to make good driving decisions and don’t let any barriers keep them from doing so. Likewise, God help me to make good driving decisions as well. You said the Holy Spirit will guide us into all truth. Please guide me to drive wisely and prudently as well.
I now plead the blood of Jesus over me this moment and I pray the angels of the Lord will go before me and protect me. I pray the Holy Spirit will direct me in which ways I should go and what I should do.
You are the God of all – even the weather obeys you. Father, please govern it so that it stops doing what it needs to stop doing and starts doing what it should do for safety and to accomplish your purpose.
Now, I commit to being peaceful – not stressed, anxious, or fearful. You are my Help.
Because you live inside me, I have peace. Because you left it for me, I have peace. I choose to walk intht peace as I drive.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

Practical tips for a safe drive in bad weather
Practice Deep Breathing Exercises.
It sounds hokey, but taking deep breaths calms your body.
Harvard Publishing Health says deep breaths help us get rid of carbon dioxide and can slow the heart rate. I’ve been working on doing that myself because I’ve had added stress lately. Click here to read the full article from Harvard.
Keeping a cool head while driving in inclement weather can be difficult. Do try to remain focused and keep your breathing steady.
When panic or anxiety starts to creep in, pray and practice deep breathing exercises. Inhale slowly through your nose and exhale through your mouth, counting to four as you do so. This helps you stay calm, relaxes your body and mind, and increases focus on the road ahead.
Give Yourself Time to Reach Your Destination Safely.
No rushing is allowed when roads or bad or if safety is a concern. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to reach your destination safely. I so struggle with this because I have a tendency to procrastinate or make myself late – all the time.
Set a pace that balances the drive, weather conditions, and other road users. If you are feeling anxious or rushed while driving, pull over in a safe, public spot and take a few minutes to pray for safety and peace. If it is nighttime, just pray as you drive.
Remind yourself that ensuring your own safety – and that of those around you – is more important than the timeframe of any given route. One of the reasons we have so many crazy drivers on the road is that everyone seems to be in such a manic rush. Besides they don’t care about the lives of others. Keep proper perspective.
Taking it slow will help reduce stress and create an environment where both you and other drivers reach their destinations unscathed. Amen?
Visualize a Successful Trip Ahead of Time.
I am not talking about the weird new-age visualization crap. I don’t believe we can visualize anything and make it happen.
The visualization to which I refer is the first step in faith. It’s linked to the “believing we have received” part of faith. In order to hope for something, you have to be able to mentally see it.
Visualization is a powerful mental technique for helping you stay calm behind the wheel in challenging weather – or any time for that matter. Before embarking on any journey, take a few minutes to picture yourself driving safely and calmly through the bad weather. Mentally see the angels of the Lord protecting you and keeping you from harm.
Visualize details such as your turns and stops, executing them smoothly.
Doing this gives you an idea of how to plan and prepare according to forecasted conditions that require extra care. It also sets a positive intention for the journey ahead – allowing you to trust in Jesus and the power of prayer.
Another facet of prayer
for safe driving – Teenagers!
Praying for others – like prayer for teenager’s safe driving
Christian Sister, I now have a driver.
The baby I had when I started GodsyGirl.com is now a driver with his own car. I find I often pray for him. Yes, Girl, MANY of my prayers for safe driving are focused on him and his safety. Talk about a faith journey – being a mom with a driving teenager means I pray for safe driving and his protection all the time.
Driving Prayer #2
A mom’s prayer for teens’ driving: here is how I often pray for him.
Dear Lord,
I come to you on behalf of _____________. Jesus, please be with him/her as he/she drives along the roads and highways today.
Lord, send your angels out before him to prepare his way. My prayer is that you supernaturally remove any challenges or issues that lie in wait ahead of him or as he travels along his way. In the name of Jesus, I cancel all the plans of the enemy to bring distraction, hardship, or danger. Please surround him with favor as a shield to protect him.
Give him the wisdom to make good driving decisions.
Holy Spirit, fill his vehicle with your presence so he is prompted to meditate on what is pure.
Don’t let tempted to do any unpure activities during his drive. Only let lovely and beautiful thoughts be with him so he is not fearful, stressed, or mean-spirited during his drive.
Thoughts are so powerful, so Lord let him think good thoughts and protect Him from those who don’t. Father, guide him to be consumed with your praise – to the point that is all he wants to think of and hear about during his drive.
Guard him. Be with him. Let no weapon formed against him prosper, Lord.
Heavenly Father, let his car do everything it is designed to do. Mechanically, let it function properly and not have any mechanical failures or issues.
In the authority of Jesus’ name, Amen
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
