Are you in search of a few uplifting quotes to lift your spirits when you’re feeling down? You’ve come to just the right place! It’s completely normal to feel overwhelmed and discouraged at times. That’s the reason I drafted this list of what I will call “when you feel lost quotes.” Scroll down to see them.
I know that heavy feeling when things seem impossible can be really tough to bear.
You’ll notice I’m phrasing my title strangely. It’s because of how search engines work, and that weird title is likely how you found me – by typing in “when you feel lost quotes.” :)
During those life moments, a feeling of defeat can shake our confidence and dim our motivation.
You don’t feel like doing anything. You’re sad and deflated.
Whether what is causing you to feel lost is a result of personal setbacks, challenges at work, or relationship issues, remember that feeling lost and defeated is okay.
No one is “up” all the time. Some people pretend to be because they think that’s what Christians do, but it’s not.
I think moments of struggle should be embraced. They don’t make you any less of a Christian.
As a woman of faith, I believe I am not defined by my struggles but rather by my victories.
This struggle, often described in Romans 7 captures how we often “feel”. But, Romans 8:37, captures who we are! In all the mess life throws our way, the Bible says “we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.”
Still things happen and kick us in the gut.
Even so, we know we are strong, even when we feel so weak. That’s the two realities we live in.
Of all people to feel this way…
Let me try to say this without sounding arrogant or off-putting.
I have a REALLY good life.
I am in reasonably good health, have a loving community of friends, and have an AMAZING church family, but at times, I feel beaten life.
Just like you do sometimes.
Granted, I’m coming off of a really tough couple of years.
These last two years shook me in so many ways.
They never shook my faith, but they shook everything earthly that grounded me. I’ve already written about that, so I won’t go into those details here.
Either way, I’ll bet many of you can relate to feeling shaken.
Losing someone you love (actually two people) who you were incredibly close to knocks you off kilter.
It’s like a great big wound in your heart. And like any wound, it needs to heal.
Mine is healing.
I must admit being an introvert by nature, I am prone to healing in private.
Thankfully, God has sent me people who will not let me isolate too much or for too long.
Reasons you may feel this way
If you can relate to what I’m saying, that may be why you searched for the term “when you feel lost quotes.”
If you’ve lost some things in your life, I hope these quotes will inspire you. Feel free to skip down to them below.
There are so many things can make you feel empty, lost and disjointed. That’s when you’re searching for when you feel lost quotes.
Here are a few that come to my mind.
- Maybe your children are leaving the nest, which can cause you to feel hurt and defeated for a season.
You know what else?
- Marital challenges can do the same.
Sometimes, marital issues aren’t always fighting and arguing; they could be a distance that’s growing bigger and bigger every day.
- Or maybe what you lost wasn’t a person. It could be a pet, financial status, or something similar.
- Maybe you have a job that you absolutely hate. I’ve had that feeling of lostness on a job once.
You go in there day after day and endure the crap they dish out, all while doing something you despise doing.
Yeah, that can make you feel defeated as well.
There are so many reasons.

You’re not alone, Christian Woman
During these times, it’s crucial to remember that everyone faces moments of adversity. You’re not weak or weird.
The key is to remember that these intense feelings of feeling lost are temporary.
Maybe you should try to seek support (like my friends who won’t let me stay down too long).
Similarly, you could focus on reflecting on past successes, and taking small, positive steps forward can help you navigate through these tough times.
Also, as a Christian, leaning into your faith will carry you through all you’re tolerating.
The Holy Spirit will turn these moments of defeat into opportunities for spiritual growth and resilience.
For sure!
The Physical Toll of Feeling Defeated!
Did you know research confirms that feeling defeated can significantly impact our mood and body?
Emotionally, it often leads to prolonged feelings of sadness, anxiety, and hopelessness.
This emotional state can diminish our motivation to do normal everyday things.
It can even amplify negative self-perceptions.
When I was in the depth of grieving my mom and brother, I ceased to be a functional woman. Even the basic of life were arduous.
I also read that prolonged feelings of defeat (long-term grief) and stress can lead to various health issues. Isn’t that wild???? You can read more here in this article I’ve found.
How we feel inwardly can impact our actual health!!!
A merry heart doeth good like a medicine, but a broken spirit drieth the bones.
Proverbs 17:22
According to the American Psychological Association, chronic stress associated with feeling defeated can trigger headaches, muscle tension, chest pain, fatigue, and sleep problems.
Do you have any of these? If so, please take action to get help.
Additionally, it can lead to more severe conditions such as high blood pressure and weakened immune function, making the body more susceptible to illnesses (APA, 2023).
Understanding these effects should prompt you to find solutions and get the right help for better mental and physical health.

READ THIS: If you feel defeated to the point of despair, please seek help from a health professional. NOW!!!!
I am not talking about This type of despair in this blog post. I am not a mental health professional nor skilled to comment on such things. If you feel your mood is impacting your life or well-being, please, please seek help.
Actually, in this blog post, I’m talking about that temporary feeling of brokenness that happens when life can kick ya in the patootie.
OR…OR… when God is pruning you!
I belong to a Facebook blogger group.
It’s a place to support other bloggers and promote your own material.
The other day, I read a post by the writer, blogger, and author Stacey Pardoe.
She categorically lists indicators that God might be pruning you.
Here is the scripture reference:
He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.
John 15:2
Oh boy!
I resonated more and more with her words in each sentence. They were like a flashlight shining light into my life.
She says, “When our lives are too full, and we are not bearing fruit, God often shows us by stripping away everything that hinders us. His ultimate purpose is to bring glory to his name, work for good in our lives, and help us to look more like Jesus.”
Not long after, I found myself sharing her post with other people in my life. It was such a good word!
So true. Check out her article below.

Your feelings are not reliable.
While powerful and real, feelings are not always accurate reflections of our reality.
In fact, they can be influenced by various factors, including past experiences, stress, and cognitive biases.
A good example is someone feeling defeated might perceive their situation as hopeless, even when viable solutions exist.
It is like an able-bodied adult drawing in 2 feet of water. Standing up is the solution.
Researchers in cognitive behavioral therapy believe our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are linked.
This means distorted thinking can cause inaccurate emotions and beliefs about our situations (Beck, 2011).
Research in psychology shows that emotions can make events seem tougher than they are (Gross, 2015). So, it is important to examine our feelings and get objective views to handle tough situations well.
Drawing closer to the Lord Jesus Christ is the ultimate viable solution when life is beating you down.
My “when you feel lost quotes”
I wanted to gather quotes for you from Christians.
Sure, quotes from others can inspire you, but they are not connected to the true Vine, Jesus Christ.
So their comfort is fleeting.
Attempting that is like building a house on a trampoline—fun for a second, but definitely not a solid plan!
On the other hand, Jesus Christ has a solid plan.
He IS the plan.
He will carry you and me through these feelings of defeat, and His Holy Spirit will remind us that our present conditions are sending false messages.
They are telling us we are defeated, but the truth of the matter is we are more than conquerors!
… we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.
Romans 8: 37
