Your Beautiful Reflection of Jesus

Have you ever driven past a car identical to yours? I mean a car with the same make, color, and model as your car? When I do, I find myself watching that car as it passes or cruises behind me. Why? Because it gives me an idea, a snapshot, or a glimpse of what I look like driving my car in and around the city. It’s no big deal, but my reticular activating system is at work and I just watch when I see another black car that looks like mine. It’s weird I know. I want to be the type of Christian woman who is so much Like Jesus folks can see Him reflected in me. I want to be a reflection of Jesus all the time.

Reflection of Jesus

Similarly, as you live your life as a Christ-follower – whether at work, the grocery store, or the mall – it should give others a quick glimpse of how Jesus looks here on earth. In other words, by simply observing our interactions and habits, people should be able to see how Jesus reacts, the things He enjoys chatting about, and how He handles conflict and/or stressful situations.

Me? A reflection of Jesus? I hope so.

Today, I prayed God would give me the grace to reflect Him to a hungry and hurting world. I want people to experience my personality and see Him in how I honor my husband, treat my friends, and react to tough life situations. Check out Romans 6:6 – it will blow your mind!

“For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin— 7because anyone who has died has been freed from sin. “

The Bible says we are “hidden in Christ”. That means I don’t *have* to live the way pre-Christ Teri would behave (which was usually unseemly).

Admittedly, sometimes I choose to ignore the Holy Spirit and still act like a “nut” and that’s where forgiveness and cleansing come in (PRAISE GOD FOR GRACE!). But essentially, I am no longer a *slave* to that old nature and don’t have to act like it. Again, mistakes happen to us all, but we are not obliged to stay there – we can get fresh forgiveness, fresh strength, and move on toward the mark of the high calling!

So, there’s no excuse! You and I can live victorious lives if we submit to the Holy Spirit and grow strong in the Lord through daily quiet time and prayer. Then people can watch us through the “rearview window” of life and say “She’s a real Christian woman and that must be what God’s looks like! Amen?

Romans 61-4: What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

  1. I’ve been doing a Women of Faith bible study on living a life of worship. In it, the authors talk about the importance of living our lives to give glory to God, for that is the purpose for which we are made. I cringed when I read that, because I wonder how much my own life gives, or reflects, God’s glory.
