The song is like a systematic prayer petitioning God to remove anything inside that’s not like Him. It’s an amazing song for meditative prayer and a great precursor to your time with the Lord.
You know, one of the things that often slips by our spiritual radar is pride. You don’t hear many sermons about it. You don’t likely think about it often. In fact, the culture actually breeds and cultivates this sin in a variety of forms. For one, selfies. Now, I do not think selfies are sin, only an unbalanced preoccupation with one’s self.
Some people can’t go a day without snapping a photograph of themselves. But, being consumed by it is not really healthy and borders on a prideful spirit.
Could you imagine Jesus taking a whole bunch of selfies on His way to Samaria? Could you seeing Him smiling into His phone every five minutes? Or how about apostle Paul snapping a selfie while being stoned for the cause of Christ? Both of these Godly examples kept their gaze so locked on the Father and the Kingdom that it seems almost comical to think they would do such things.
Instead of being so consumed with ourselves, let’s strive to focus more on the Lord. Before we reach for that phone for a selfie, think.
Hey, 1000 years from now, our great-great grandchildren will not care about our selfies as much as they will care about the legacy that we infused into their family line. Wouldn’t you rather have them talk about the strong woman of faith that you were and not how you took so many stupid selfies? I know I would.
AGAIN – selfies in themselves are not sin. The spirit of pride is and it can manifest in a lot of ways. Be aware. Ask Holy Spirit to reveal areas in which the secret sins are displeasing the Lord.
It’s time we grow past spiritual childishness and toward a firm, mature faith. A mature faith focuses less on self and more on following the Holy Spirit’s lead. Pride will affect your desire to love, worship, serve and apologize.
Be careful of pride and self-worship. I challenge us all to get ourselves off our minds. Instead, may we seek to capture His presence. Amen or OH-man? I don’t expect young or immature Christians to agree, but I’m curious what the prevailing thoughts are.
FINAL THOUGHT: We need to start creating more opportunities for something called “Godsies”, not selfies. Hey, I just created something! Need to get it trademarked! LOL
